About Me

Work

My name is Iain Nisbet and I am the author and designer of Absolvitor: Scots Law Online. I am a solicitor and partner at Govan Law Centre where I head the national Education Law Unit. As the name suggests, I specialise in education law, with a particular focus on additional support needs. My work is a mix of giving advice over the telephone or by e-mail, speaking at seminars or other training events and representing parents or pupils in court or tribunals. In 2007, I won the “Rising Star of the Year” award at the Scottish Legal Awards and in 2011, I was highly commended in the “Specialist Lawyer of the Year” category.  Well done me.

More Work

I run a small web design business called Newtopia Web Design, which (among other things) runs this website.  I write a monthly website review for the Journal of the Law Society of Scotland.  And I blog for Yell.com – where do I find the time?

Real Life

I am a married man, with a lovely wife and two lively sons.  I like to sing and am a member of the Springfield Cambridge Festival Chorus.  I enjoy board games and strategy computer games, too. I used to play a bit of tennis, but it’s been a while since I even looked at my racquet (sigh).  I am a member of Torrance Parish Church.  I enjoy following the Glasgow Warriors (“The Biggest team in Glasgow”) and the Ospreys.
