About Me

Work

My name is Iain Nisbet and I am the author and designer of Absolvitor: Scots Law Online. I am a solicitor and partner at Govan Law Centre where I head the national Education Law Unit. As the name suggests, I specialise in education law, with a particular focus on additional support for learning, equality law and getting it right for every child (GIRFEC).

My work is a mix of advice and representation, training for schools and other education institutions, and policy and campaign work.

More Work

I am the first Convener of the School Closure Review Panels, which is a public appointment I have held since 2015. I also curate the links and resources page on the website of the Scottish Council of Law Reporting.

Real Life

I am a married man, with a lovely wife and two lively sons.  I like to sing and am a member of the Springfield Cambridge Festival Chorus.  I enjoy board games. I used to play a bit of tennis, but it’s been a while since I even looked at my racquet (sigh).  I am a member of Torrance Parish Church.  I enjoy following the Glasgow Warriors (“The Biggest team in Glasgow”) and the Ospreys.
